HAZARDOUS HEARTS
Issue 17, Hazardous Hearts
With Issue 17 being one of The Tower's more "feature-driven" issues, the overarching topic of the issue-- relationships-- allowed me as the artist to have a little more liberty and fun with how I portrayed toxic relationships. As the issue as a whole was a relatively "light" issue in terms of content-- distributed around Valentine's Day, most of the articles were meant to be "feel-good," and not necessarily serious in tone-- I thought to set the mood for the issue as somewhat comical. Although toxic relationships are extremely serious, the idea of having a heavy front page graphic for an overall positive issue seemed out-of-touch, as well as slightly jarring; thus, I love the body language of the two characters, and in their playfulness, they draw attention to an important topic.
